    Ira Chaleff at the US Naval Academy 2014 panel on Ethics

    The theme of the 2014 Leadership Conference at the US Naval Academy was “Followership: The Evolution of a Leader.” Elements of the entire brigade of 4500 midshipmen attended the program as well as delegations from 60 other universities, including many of the most prestigious in the nations. The program consisted of two days of notable keynotes, three panels and small group discussions on key questions. This video is an excerpt of the remarks by Followership Author Ira Chaleff during the panel “Ethics: The Leader, The Follower and the Organization.” The full panel presentation can be found here.

    Leading and Following Through Tango

    Tango is a close, improvisational dance that requires excellence in both the leader and follower role. Ira has produced a video in which one of the leading Tango practitioners in the US demonstrates the ways in which following well brings out the creativity of the leader and following poorly undermines the leader and the dance.

    Ira teaches in Georgetown University’s Professional Manager Development Program. In this graduation video, he references the Director, Linda Hopper, who writes on the relationship of Servant Leadership and Courageous Followership.

    Ira Chaleff spoke at Indiana University, The Randall L. Tobias Center For Leadership Excellence’s 2009 Multi-Sector Forum on the emergence of followership as a topic of research and discourse. Here, he places his pioneering work, The Courageous Follower, within the context of other contributions to this emerging field. Using Powerpoint, Chaleff discusses his model of courageous followership and talks about where and how it is having an impact among practitioners. The presentation is available here in five segments.
