National Democratic Institute Distributes The Courageous Follower to International Legislators
Dear Ira,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for your generous gift of The Courageous Follower publication. We have been distributing the publication to international delegations that have visited Washington, D.C. as part of legislative exchange programs – and have also made it available to NDI staff who have helped to design leadership development programs. The exchange delegations typically involve members of parliament, but have also included senior legislative staff. Last week we hosted a delegation from Central America, and are hosting another group of senior legislative leaders from Angola that we will also be sharing copies of the work with. We still have a number of copies left, but are continuing to work through distribution of the supply. As part of our partnership with the House Democracy Partnership, we have been refurbishing the legislative library of the Liberian parliament and are sending out copies as part of their new collection of materials as well.
I want to thank you again for your generous contribution.
Kind regards,
Katy

The Courageous Follower in Translation
Latest bulletin (07/08/10): The Vietnamese translation rights to the 3rd edition of The Courageous Follower have just been purchased. When this translation eventually appears, it will be the fourth Asian language (Japanese, Korean, Chinese are already represented). The Japanese translation rights to The Courageous Follower were purchased by Diamond, a leading publishing company in Japan that publishes The Diamond Harvard Business Review. In 2008, a gorgeous hardcover Korean translation of The Courageous Follower: Standing Up To and For Our Leaders was published, and a bright-looking paperback of the book was published in Italian. The title is invariably challenging to translate into other languages, given the subtle connotations of “Follower” in each culture. The Italians took the bold step of not translating the word, titling the book Il Follower Corraggioso and explained their choice in the preface. Italians have already adopted the English word “leader” into their language so why not “follower”?
